Artist's Description
Squirrel Point Light in Arrowsic is a special place for me. Being off the road, accessible only by hiking about a mile through mosquito and tick infested woods and wetlands, keeps things quiet here. I love people, but sometimes I need to get away, to find solitude somewhere beautiful. This place does it for me.
The first time I visited, I noticed that the walkway made a great leading line and, facing due west, makes this an ideal sunset location. The mosquitos were swarming when I arrived just after the sun dipped below the horizon last night, but with the clouds in the sky I knew the light was about to get really good.
To get this shot, I had to set up the tripod about a foot off the boardwalk to make it appear large in the frame and draw attention to it. It is only about 2 feet wide. This is a single exposure, given the look of HDR in Lightroom by pulling back the highlights and boosting the shadows to give a more natural dynamic range. This is how I saw it.

If Im successful at this, I think you will feel it too. What do I connect with? What excites me? The first thing that comes to mind is standing in awe and wonder at nature and natural phenomena — especially dramatic weather. And I’m fascinated by how human beings fit into the natural world in symbiotic, beautiful, and ingenious ways. I love showcasing the places and spaces that bring us close to...
